Peer Grief Support Group Training

This two-day training will take place on July 12 and 13th at Magnifiscents (5207 E 38th St N Dr, Indianapolis, IN 46218) in Indianapolis. The training is sponsored by the Marion County Coroner’s Office and is free to all participants.

The purpose of this training is to bring peer grief support to communities of color in Marion County. By training community members to become peer grief support group facilitators, we hope to bring inclusive and welcoming peer grief support options throughout Marion County.

The focus of these peer grief support groups will be on communities grieving substance-use-related and other traumatic deaths.

  • When and where is this training?

    This training will be held on Friday, July 12th and Saturday, July 13th in Indianapolis. The training will take place at Magnifiscents ( 5207 E 38th St N Dr, Indianapolis, IN 46218).

    Who is this training for?

    Anyone who as experienced the death of someone they care about due to substance-use-related or other traumatic causes of death that is interested in offering peer grief support to others going through similar experiences. The goal of this training is to bring peer grief support to communities of color led by individuals from the communities.

    How long is the training?

    The training is 16 hours spread across two 8-hr days.

    How much does this training cost?

    This training is completely free to participants. Breakfast and lunch will be provided both days.

    What can I expect from this training?

    Learn how to start and sustainably facilitate a peer grief support group through a lens of cultural humility.

    Connect with others going through similar experiences.

    Be empowered to design the group that meets my own communities’ unique needs, rather than what others may offer across the board

    Who is involved in this effort?

    Alfie McGinty, Chief Deputy Coroner of Marion County and bereaved mother, is spearheading this effort with the assistance of Peer Support Community Partners, nationally-recognized peer grief support experts.
